Day 11 – Ueno

Today we went to a district of Tokyo called Ueno. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ueno

First stop was the Tokyo National Museum. There is no way to see all of this museum in a morning but we focused on the archeological exhibit that showed swords, pottery, textiles, and much more from prehistoric times up to modern times. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_National_Museum

After the museum, we walked down to the market area of town. On our way we passed several classes of little boys around 7 years old and it was a a sea of happy ” hello” as we passed. It was so joyful.

All along our trip, Jake has been really good about researching all the best places to eat. Today, we went to a place that only sells duck ramen. Words can not do justice to this amazing soup. So simple yet so fabulous. Only about 20 people can fit in at a time which is pretty typical of a local eatery. Some of these places you eat standing up, hanging out is discouraged

There are ramen noodles underneath the toppings. You can also choose a few other things to put in. I chose a soft boiled egg.

After lunch, we walked around the market and got our steps in. Up first, a used guitar/ music equipment shop.

The last picture is a sign on the train platform. Don’t be jumping down to get your stuff.

After a nap, dinner was at a shabu shabu place with all you can eat sushi. Shabu shabu is where you dip whatever thin sliced meat into a boiling broth to cook it. https://home.akihabara.kokosil.net/en/archives/84389

The video below was a fun 3D billboard at the Ueno train station.
